PA: Hospital Quits Hiring Smokers
Smokers
in the medical field now have another reason to quit as a Pennsylvania
hospital has said it will no longer hire smokers and is introducing
nicotine tests in order to enforce the rule.
Geisinger Health System's smoke-free health policy will go into effect on Feb. 1, according to KKTV.com.
"Not only do we want to practice what we preach, but we also want our employees to feel healthy, we want our patients and visitors to feel that they are in a healthy environment. So it's an overall commitment to the well-being of all those people," Geisinger spokeswoman Marcy Marshall told the Vancouver Sun.

Me: This should be illegal. A smoker should have every right to work in a hospital just like a nonsmoking Black person, a gay nonsmoker, and a nonsmoking lady. And how is a nic test gonna work when a nonsmoker could have eaten potatoes and tomatpoes? Those food products contain nic.

Clearing the Air: Why Smoking Bans are bad for businesses

Pfizer is the manufacturer of a variety of quit smoking aids known as NRTs (nicotine replacement therapies). Smoking bans -- a measure intended, in part, to coerce smokers into quitting -- are such good business for them that they fund drives by anti-smoker groups across the country. If smokers quit they might reach for these NRTs for assistance. Smoking bans shut out the competition over which nicotine product to use.

>>>>"I'm probably going to smoke until the day I die. I'm more concerned about a bullet killing me than smoking."<<<<
I can confirm this is an UN-edited quote from myself. It's the only quote from myself within the article as well.

Cigarettiquette
Someone posted this project as a comment on my blog. I think this project looks neat. I wish the person the best of luck in reaching the fund goal within the next 2 months.
For the record, Cigarettiquette is gonna be a book with the prosmoking/smokers rights theme.

It's not a Happy New Year for smokers and hospitality owners
Is this reallly a "Happy New Year?" Not really, since I still haven't heard of `any smoking ban getting revoked yet. I heard of a maybe two bans over the past 4 years adding businesses as ban exemptions. But not a full-out ban revoke.
Happy 4th anniversary to the Illinois statewide smoking ban. It's good to know lots of tavern owners in Chicago and throughout IL are ignoring the ban by letting their patrons light up. I dunno how much those so-called "tickets" are for the owners. But I bet smokers don't mind "donating" money to the taverns in exchange for lighting up with their drink.
It's also been 4 years since the last time cig prices went up in Chicago. I know a $1 state cig tax hike was proposed last year down in Springfield. But the tax hike never passed.
Happy New Year for smokers and businesses? NOT!
