No smoking for new hospital workers

Anotha reason why antis should leave some smokers alone. It might cause you to feel pain from me if you gonna tell me I can't even smoke during off-hours of me having a hospital job. And believe me, I'm being nice with those comments. ;)

Another reason to torch that tobacco habit - it can cost you a job.

As of Feb. 1, Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn., won’t hire anyone who smokes or chews tobacco, reports

A statement issued by the healthcare facility notes that new hires must undergo a test for nicotine, along with the usual battery of drug tests.

That statement, in part read: “Effective February 1, 2010, Memorial Health Care System will no longer hire individuals who use tobacco or nicotine products in any form.”

The hiring ban is designed, the noticed pointed out, to have a far-reaching interest. It reads, “Memorial Health Care System and its affiliates recognize the major importance of associates' health and well being, and the responsibility of maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all associates, volunteers, patients and visitors.”

Memorial Hospital joins a number of U.S. companies that don’t want employees who smoke, and that includes during off-hours.
